Planning applications starting to recover says Barbour ABI
Ahead of official figures, Barbour ABI data has highlighted that the number of plans being submitted to Local Authorities is showing signs of recovery in the first quarter of 2009. Planning application numbers increased by 18.25% in March 2009 compared to February 2009. Quarterly figures indicate a 3.7% rise over the fourth quarter of 2008.

Barbour ABI is the only organisation in the UK that reports on 100% of all planning applications and public tender information. Our core business is utilising our extensive construction database to supply construction industry professionals with analysis, trends and construction sales leads.
Adam Valentine, Research Director, says: “Although it’s worth remarking that application numbers are still significantly down on this time last year, we’re able to see a noticeable increase in the number of applications submitted in the first quarter of this year. It’s possible that some of this increase can be attributed to seasonal variation in application numbers, but March 2008 saw a decrease in applications over the previous month rather than the increase we’ve seen in March 2009.
Next month’s data could give an even clearer indicator of confidence returning to future planned work within the construction industry.”
